THE CAR AS ART

Some cars are nothing less than works of art on four wheels: handcrafted machines from a bygone era that fuse form and function to absolute perfection. Cars with a spirit and a story of such wonder that they transcend time.

These are the cars that I seek to capture in my art. And as an artist with the passion of a draftsman, I am driven to bring the stories of these legends to life with complete technical and historical accuracy – in the same handcrafted manner that they were also made.

I hope my art will move you as much as the spirit and the stories of the cars they portray have moved me.

When I started painting automobile portraits for collectors in 2006, the idea of taking my passion further grew in me. In 2018, after 30 years as a creative I left my job in advertising to pursue my dream.

And at the end of 2023 my team was finally complete! Together with people who share my vision and passion, I will soon be launching a new brand dedicated to bringing automobile history to life in fine art.

WHAT DRIVES ME

My pictures are about capturing the fascination with automotive technology and the authenticity of a single frozen moment in time – the one that made history. It may seem strange to want to visualize a rear wheel rim or modifications to a car body in a historically and technically correct way. Especially since these existed decades ago for such a fleeting moment. But that’s precisely what drives me and my art. My desire to recreate my subjects with complete historical and technical accuracy presents me with a challenge that goes far beyond the actual process of painting. Indeed, each motif requires months of painstaking research to ensure that every detail in my paintings captures the essence of my subject within its authentic historical context.

MY DNA

My professor Heinrich Gillis Görtz was a master of the old school. At the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, he taught me how to see the world with a new perspective by penetrating bodies in my imagination to give them structure. He called this the fundamental skill of a draftsman. His teachings became a part of my artistic process and they are the basis for the way I approach bringing all my four-wheeled subjects to life to this very day.
